Scritta da David Byrne, Brian Eno, Chris Frantz, Jerry Harrison e Tina Weymouth, Once in a Lifetime (Per una volta nella vita) è il primo singolo estratto da Remain in Light, quarto album in studio dei Talking Heads (Psycho Killer), pubblicato l’8 ottobre 1980.
Il brano è stato pubblicato il 2 febbraio 1981. Il video ufficiale è esposto al MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) di New York. Alcuni dei movimenti di Byrne sono stati ispirati dalla sua coreografa Toni Basil, che gli ha mostrato dei video di persone affette da epilessia.
