Man on the Moon – R.E.M. – Testo Traduzione Significato

Pubblicata il 21 novembre 1992, Man on the Moon è una canzone del R.E.M., secondo singolo estratto dal loro ottavo album, dal titolo Automatic for the People. Il brano è un tributo al cantante, comico e attore statunitense Andy Kaufman, morto nel 1984.

Kaufman era un intrattenitore reso famoso dalle sue apparizioni televisive a tarda notte (ovvero Saturday Night Live e Late Night con David Letterman) e dal ruolo di Latka Gravas nella sitcom Taxi. Kaufman era noto per la sua comicità, nonostante si riferisse a se stesso non come un comico, ma come un “uomo che canta e balla”.

Man on the Moon ha il titolo anche al film omonimo del 1999 incentrato anche lui sulla vita di Kaufman e interpretato nella pellicola da Jim Carrey.

Il video, diretto da Peter Care, è stato girato nel deserto californiano. Rolling Stone lo classifica tra i 100 migliori video musicali della storia.
